Tenancingo Rebozo Tour
Tenancingo is a place southwest of Mexico City famous for producing rebozos which are an important part of Mexican traditional clothing that I am sure you have seen before.
A rebozo which looks like a cross between a scarf and a shawl is a long flat garment used mostly by women in Mexico. It can be worn in various ways, usually folded or wrapped around the head and/or upper body to shade from the sun, provide warmth, and as an accessory to an outfit. It is also used to carry babies and large bundles, especially among indigenous women.
We drove to 3 different workshops where we could learn and compare different methods of crafting. The oldest one is the pre-Hispanic technique, “backstrap loom”, which was demonstrated to us by a 93-year-old Maestro Evaristo Borboa Casas. Each of his Rebozos is unique, and no pattern was ever repeated. Maestro is doing all the work himself. He can make only 14 rebozos per year! The cost of one is around 13000 MNX (684USD) The second technique called a Pedal or Floor Loom was imported by the Spanish and allows more efficient production, using this technique one person can do up to 6 rebozos per day and patterns are repeated. No wonder this technique allows for lower production cost and the price of each is around 3000MXN (158USD)
The last method is when the rebozos are made by machines and finished by hand the price is around 300mxn (16USD). The oldest and traditional handmade method is only known by a few people and is slowly disappearing. What a fantastic tour. Thank you @undersatndmexico

Przy użyciu tej techniki jedna osoba może wykonać do 6 Rebozos dziennie, o takim samym wzorze. Nic dziwnego, że ta technika pozwala obniżyć koszty produkcji, a cena każdego z nich wynosi około 3000 mxn (158USD)
Ostatnia metoda polega na tym, że Rebozos są wykonywane przez maszyny i wykańczane ręcznie, te są najtańsze ok 300mxn (16USD)
Najstarsza tradycyjna metoda ręczna znana jest tylko kilku osobom i niestety powoli zanika.
