Our tour of the Punta Arenas, Chile. Zwiedzanie Punta Arenas, Chile.

After returning from a boat trip, around 1:00 pm, we began our tour of the Punta Arenas which is the port city for fishing boats, scientific ships, and cruise ships going to Antarctica. At the end of the 19th century, three hundred sheep were brought to the city from the Falklands. In a short time, this number has grown to two million and contributed to the development of many fortunes in the city. At present, trade is thriving thanks to the duty-free zone.

We started the sightseeing tour of the Plaza de Armas, where there is a statue of Fernando Magellan that is facing the sea. The special character of Punta Arenas is due to buildings, especially palaces built during the woolen boom period. Strolling down the main street, we admired the beautiful old villas, which now have museums and clubs, including the famous Magellan Regional Museum.

We ate dinner in a unique restaurant located in the beautiful Sara Braun Palace (currently Club de la Union).

The white tombs of the cemetery in the port city on the southern edge of Chile are the place that has to be seen. It is a beautiful, old cemetery funded by Sara Braun, who will tell you a lot about the history of the city. More about Sara Braun a well-known businesswoman and philanthropist of the city here.

Another point of the program was the Nao Victoria Museum , located in the port of Humedal de Tres Puentes, where we saw a perfectly done replica of the ship, which Fernando Magellan arrived at the Tierra del Fuego in the 16th century. There is an interactive museum inside the ship.

The last point of the program was a walk over the oceanfront promenade at Magellan's Strait, up to the viewpoint from which we could see the literal End of the World or Tierra del Fuego.

A fantastic day full of unforgettable impressions and this was just the beginning of our trip to Patagonia.

Po powrocie do Punta Arenas, ok. godziny 13.00 rozpoczęliśmy zwiedzanie miasta, które stanowi bazę wypadową na Antarktydę. Punta Arenas posiada wspaniały port, do którego zawijają nie tylko kutry rybackie, ale również statki naukowe i wycieczkowe. Z końcem XIX w. do miasta sprowadzono z Falklandów trzysta sztuk owiec. W niedługim czasie liczba ta urosła do dwóch milionów, przyczyniają się do rozwoju wielu fortun. Obecnie handel kwitnie m.in. dzięki strefie wolnocłowej

Zwiedzanie rozpoczęliśmy od Placu Broni (Plaza de Armas), przy którym znajduje się zwrócony twarzą do morza pomnik Fernando Magellana. Szczególny charakter Punta Arenas zawdzięcza budynkom, a szczególnie pałacom wzniesionym w okresie boomu wełnianego. Spacerując główną ulicą podziwialiśmy przepiękne stare wille, w których obecnie znajdują się muzea i kluby, w tym słynne Muzeum Regionalne Magellana.

Obiad zjedliśmy w wyjątkowej restauracji mieszczącej się w przepięknym Pałacu Sary Braun (obecnie Club de la Union).

Białe grobowce cmentarza w portowym mieście na południowym skraju Chile po prostu trzeba zobaczyć. Jest to piękny, stary cmentarz ufundowany przez także przez Sarę Braun, który powie na dużo o historii miasta. Więcej o Sarze Braun znanej bizneswoman i filantropce miasta tutaj.

Kolejnym punktem programu było Muzeum Nao Victoria, znajdujące się w porcie Humedal de Tres Puentes, gdzie zobaczyliśmy idealnie odwzorowaną replikę statku, którym do Ziemi Ognistej w XVI wieku dopłynął Fernando Magellan. Wewnątrz statku mieści się interaktywne muzeum.

Ostatnim punktem programu był spacer nad-oceanicznym deptakiem przy Cieśnienie Magellana, aż do punktu widokowego, z którego mogliśmy zobaczyć dosłowny Koniec Świata, czyli Ziemię Ognistą.

Fantastyczny dzień pełen niezapomnianych wrażeń a to był dopiero początek naszej podroży po Patagonii.
